Open source software has revolutionized the software world since the introduction of GNU project (free Unix-like operating system) in 1983. In a similar attempt, BSPIN EAST team has initiated the project ‘OSAAP’ which aims to develop Open Source Software Processes. The initiative is aimed at providing Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) open source software processes which enable them to enhance their process maturity. In the talk, an overview of the initiative is provided along with a demonstration of the process assets developed so far. The talk was delivered by Suresh Thiagarajan, Group Quality Manager (iGATE), who is leading this initiative on behalf of BSPIN EAST Chapter.

The iGATE team of consisting of Sumit, Saira and Kishore won the 1st Prize for the best presentation at the BSPIN EAST Annual Best Practices Sharing Session conducted on Friday the 25th Jan. held at Perot Systems. The theme for the Competition was 'Best Practices under Continuous process improvement/kaizen, Lean practices, Breakthrough process improvement(PI), Innovations in PI, Productivity improvement, Process Alignment to biz, SW metrics '. Some of the best names in the Industry participated in this event. Out of 30 Companies that sent in their presentations 5 were short listed from iGATE, Phillips, HP, and NXP. iGATE beat the other 3 companies to receive the BSPIN trophy.

The talk on the "OPMS – One Page Management System,A ‘language’ designed for problem-solving and decision making on complex issues" gives a practical insights on How to design effective systems of all kinds - enabling integration of human and behavioral issues with technology issues.

Phaneesh, CEO, Managing Director & Member of the Board delivered the talk on "Does Goal Flow Down Help in Building Quality?" The balanced scorecard is a management system that enables organizations to clarify their vision and strategy and translate them into action. It provides feedback around both the internal business processes and external outcomes in order to continuously improve strategic performance and results. The balanced scorecard methodology builds on some key concepts of previous management ideas such as Total Quality Management (TQM), continuous improvement, employee empowerment, etc.. Phaneesh is going to talk about the importance of visioning exercise, setting goals at organization level from four different perspectives such as Financials, Customer, Learning & Growth and Internal Business Process. He is also going to touch upon the importance of goal flow down at various levels, importance of periodic reviews and how this would help in improving quality at organization level and achieve Business Excellence He will also share his perspective on the importance of Quality Function in an organization and how this function could help in achieving Business Excellence.

Mr. Deepak J Patel, MD & Group COO, Mphasis-EDS. Outlined how the future of IT is determined by the factors like IT Simplification and Modernization, Continuous Change, Specialization, Expanding Edge, Integrated Suite v/s Best-Of-Breed, Ubiquitous Computing and Flattening World

Mr. Satyendra Kumar, Sr. VP & Head of Quality, Infosys. Illustrated how understanding customers and markets, aligning the organization to them, measurements of these factors and managing relationships help customer centricity. It was also outlined how Quality folks can play an important role in all these initiatives.

Mr. Manoj Chakravarthy, Advisor, Titan Industries. Highlighted about the tremendous opportunity for corporate to focus on the lower, but fatter end of the pyramid and its underlying promise of my short presentation.

Mr. Subbu Goparaju, Head of Software Engineering Technology Labs, Infosys. Explained how agility is directly linked to Scale, Ease of Integration (For eg. M&A), Ease of Business Process Change (for eg. Compliance), New Products Development Collaboration, Flexibility (for eg. On-demand usage) and Re-distribution of processes in a flat world Invited talk: Customer Centricity - Delivering Customer Value at the lowest end of the pyramid

Mr. K. Sreekiran Reddy, Head of TradersNet, ITC. Explained the model that aims of building social capital first,then build communities of farmers by enhancing their income generating capacity in their prime activity of agriculture.

Mr. Yuvaraj AR, Chief Test Architect, SAP NetWeaver, SAP Labs. Brought to light the Challenges faced by an ISV, Understanding the Domain – Software Configuration Management and Infrastructure for SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio

Mr. Premraj Krishnakutty, Business Unit Lead, Honeywell Technology Solutions. Focused solution provisioning using technology elements like framework, components, reuse aspects and tools to drive substantial improvements in software productivity.

Mr. Parthasarathy NS, Executive Vice President & Co-founder, MindTree Consulting. Analyzed the topic in the perspective of Growth, Customer Satisfaction and Profitability.

Mr. R Sri Kumar, Director General of Police and Chairman & MD of Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation Limited. Brought to light the similarities and realities that we face both in a construction and a software industry.

Mr. Davis MC, GM, OSS, Wipro. Detailed the Outsourcing / off shoring as a key / inevitable strategy, Drivers for Delivery commitments in the eyes of Customer and about Drivers for Service Providers.

Mr. Sharad Sharma, MD, Yahoo India. Shared the experiences on Agiles practices and their success stories in Yahoo.

Mr. Madhusudhan Rao, Senior Consultant, Satyam. Case study was displaying the various open source tools available in the market and how good is the open source market and its growth.

Ms Ameeta Roy, Technical Lead, IBM. Case study predicts the future of open source framework for software delivery.
